ABA COVID-19 Response, letter from our President

Dear ABA Business Members and Community,

Like so many of us, I have had numerous conversations regarding COVID-19 the past few weeks. Two conversations strike me in particular. The first was in a recent email in which I referred to the ‘epidemic’ as ‘interesting’. At the time it was interesting even knowing that there may be further steps soon taken to prevent community spread. The second is from the new reality we face this week that the ‘pandemic’ we are now experiencing is ‘unprecedented’.

Just a few weeks ago there was no way to know the levels of impact the novel coronavirus would have on our economy, businesses, and communities. To be sure the Applewood Business Association stands with all of our public health officials, medical providers and local, state and federal leaders and look to them for direction in these unprecedented days.

The ABA is taking steps to ensure that we are following all guidelines related to COVID-19, while continuing to support our business members and businesses in Applewood. In response to the State public health order on March 17 to close bars, restaurants, gyms, theatres and casinos for 30 days, the ABA will cancel the March 26th breakfast and all April events, including the April 9th luncheon, the ABC’s of the ABA on April 22nd, the April 23rd breakfast, and the April Business After Hours. We will re-evaluate our events in May while taking a proactive approach to monitor event cancellations through the City and County of Denver imposed timeline of May 11th. This leaves the potential that we may return for the May 14th luncheon on the table.

In the meantime, we are working with the Board and volunteers to explore options to continue supporting our members. We recognize the importance of bringing our community together and we hope to be able to provide some engaging educational opportunities in the digital realm. Our marketing committee is proposing to produce Zoom ‘Genius’ networking groups in April and Zoom conference calls for our April committees and the ABC’s of the ABA. Please look for the upcoming topics and dates for these virtual events. In addition, please mark your calendars and join us for the virtual April committees:

– Marketing committee 3rd Tuesday, April 21st from 9-10am contact Dr. Nick Kapustka
– Membership 3rd Tuesday, April 21st from 3-4pm contact Van Wedgwood
– Programs 3rd Wednesday, April 22nd from 3-4pm contact Anne Linze
– Finance 4th Tuesday, April 28th from 9-10am contact Andrew Coonan

There’s no better time to get involved with the ABA committees then during a home quarantine! Please contact our committee chairs to participate.

We will continue to keep our fingers on the pulse and relay important information that we believe will benefit our community, both related to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency response and for opportunities to engage with the ABA and for small business resources to weather this storm. We will share our updates on our website, on our social media platforms @applewoodbusiness, and in our email newsletters.

COVID-19 certainly is unprecedented. You can bet our global and local response will be as well. Especially here in Applewood, as our community comes together and grows stronger in the face of adversity. Please heed the experts call for social distancing to support your neighbors, friends and family in this time of crisis. And most of all stay healthy!
